Everyone wants ideas that are fresh, innovative, breakthrough, original, showing the sort of out-of-the-box, blue-skies thinking that they haven’t seen before.
Then these fresh, new ideas are subjected to the same old research methods, such as Link testing.
Here’s where our boat thinking comes in.
Imagine a brand that has always crossed the choppy waters of marketing using different kinds of advertising boats.
Over the years the brand has used big boats, little boats, rowing boats, sailing boats and motor boats.
Before these advertising boats set sail, they’re evaluated in test tanks, taken out on trials and subjected to every test a boat should go through.
Then, one day the client wonders if there might be a different way of getting across the treacherous marketing waters. The call goes out for a new, fresh, innovative way that's never been tried before.
So someone designs a bridge.
And the client wants to know if it will float.
It's not that we’re against research. Almost all the work we’ve made has had to get through Link or a similar process. It’s a fact of life and a lot can be learned from it. If everyone goes into the process aware of the limitations, it is possible to meet the expectations of research and still produce something fresh and unexpected.
